Heavy rain and flooding that swept through the area over the last few weeks postponed an event celebrating the opening of State Highway 45 Southwest (SW).
But according to officials, the 4.5-mile, four-lane toll road that connects MoPac in south Austin to FM 1626 near Bliss Spillar Road in Hays County will be ready for traffic June 1.
Construction on the road began in November 2016 and took approximately three and a half years to complete.
The grand opening celebration for SH45SW will occur May 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“When the road opens, if you have an active electronic tag, drivers will be able to drive the new 45 SW road toll-free through the end of June,” said Dee Anne Heath, director of External Affairs for the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
