Five total touchdowns from Wimberley quarterback Cooper McCollum lifted the Texans to a decisive 42-6 season opening victory over the Burnet Bulldogs Friday at Texan Stadium.

A bad snap from the one-yard line on Burnet’s opening possession of the first quarter rolled out of the back of the end-zone gifting Wimberley (1-0) their first two points of the season and game changing momentum.

Later in the quarter, McCollum got the offense rolling with a wide open 56-yard touchdown pass to receiver Christian Marshall, extending the Texans' lead to 9-0.

In the second quarter, McCollum showed off his wheels with a 43-yard touchdown run on a quarterback sneak where he eluded multiple Bulldogs (0-1), while stiff arming another defender, to get to the end-zone.

Wimberley continued their offensive momentum in the third quarter with a 30-yard touchdown run up the middle by McCollum, followed by a 45-yard touchdown catch and run by running back Juan Olmedo on a screen pass from McCollum.

After a late touchdown in the third quarter by Burnet running back Marcus Escamilla, McCollum responded in the fourth frame with a 19-yard touchdown run, his third rushing touchdown for the game. Wimberley running back Jake Milam capped the game off with a 11-yard touchdown run late in the fourth, giving the Texans the 42-6 win.
