For a second straight year, Dripping Springs’ boys golf team is state bound.

On Saturday, the Tiger boys team took second place overall at the Region IV, 5A tournament played at the Palm View Golf Course in McAllen.

The boys team was led by senior Jake Sitterle, who finished third overall with a one-under score in the two-day tournament. His two-day stroke total of 143 (73 and 70) tied him for second place, but he was defeated on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff by Boerne Champion’s Zach Heffernan.

Jun Min Lee of Mission Sharyland was the individual regional champion. Dripping Springs sophomore Sam Sewell was the fifth overall finisher with a total of 151 (75 and 76). Tanner Wardlaw finished 25th overall, Jake Sewell finished 55th and Luke Ezell took 59th place.

Among the state-qualifying teams, Dripping Springs High finished ahead of Alamo Heights and behind Boerne Champion. Dripping Springs’ boys team advances to the state tournament, which takes place May 20-21 at Georgetown’s White Wing Golf Club. Dripping Springs finished 9th at the 2018 UIL State Tournament.

Meanwhile, Dripping Springs’ girls team took fourth place at the Regional tournament, narrowly missing a spot at state.

The Tiger girls team finished behind state-qualifying teams from Alamo Heights, Mission Sharyland and Boerne Champion. Leading the Lady Tigers was Paige Miller, who was the team’s lowest scorer and finished 17th overall. The girls team, which had four first-time varsity players, also included Lindsey Teague (23rd overall), Samantha Miethke (29th), Katherine Montgomery (35th) and Ava Cole (72nd). Both Teague and Cole recorded personal best scores at the regional tournament.

The Dripping Springs golf program is led by Jason Wahlers.
