As Hays CISD officials last week filled a vacancy atop Lehman High’s boys basketball program, a replacement has now been found to lead the Lady Lobo hoops team.

On July 26, Lehman High officials announced the hire of Brock Ramsey as the next head girls basketball coach. Ramsey becomes the fourth coach to lead the Lady Lobo basketball team in the past four seasons.

Ramsey, a 23-year coaching veteran, had spent the last two seasons at Gonzales High where he amassed a 40-26 overall mark and led the program to two straight playoff appearances. Ramsey, who was also the assistant softball coach at Gonzales, resigned in March in the middle of the softball season, according to a Gonzales Inquirer report. Reasons for the resignation are unknown at this time.

Ramsey takes over for Brad Taylor, who in one season led the Lady Lobos to a 14-20 overall record, 6-10 in district play, which was the program’s best mark since the 2012 campaign.

Taylor, who stepped down to take a football and track coaching position at his alma mater, Madisonville High, was initially hired at Lehman as an assistant girls basketball and track coach in 2017.

Taylor assumed head coaching duties prior to the start of the 2019 season after former leader James Halatin stepped down due to family reasons.

According to Lehman High officials, Ramsey is “looking forward to the challenge of improving the basketball program,” including punching a ticket to the postseason in 2020.

Meanwhile, Lehman High officials also announced the promotion of assistant Ben Wiatrek as the next head Lobo boys basketball coach.

Wiatrek was hired in 2018 and served as a first assistant to then head coach Steven Pinchback, who was hired in July to helm San Marcos High.

Wiatrek was part of a coaching staff that led the Lobo boys basketball program to a record 16 wins and its highest finish in district play since reaching the playoffs in 2011.

Prior to coaching at Lehman High, Wiatrek served as an assistant coach at Marion High and helped lead that program to multiple playoff appearances. Wiatrek has more than 15 years of coaching experience.
