Four people have thrown their hats into the ring for a Kyle City Council seat that could be up for grabs again in November.
Robert Rizo, Michelle Carey, Cody DeSalvo and Stuart Kirkwood all filed to run for the District 3 seat prior to Monday’s official deadline for the May 4 special election.
The four are vying for the seat vacated by former city council member Shane Arabie, who submitted his formal letter of resignation late last month. On Feb. 23, Kyle city leaders called a special election to fill the final four-plus months of Arabie’s term, which was set to expire in November.
Rizo, a longtime Kyle area resident and a property management supervisor, is making his second attempt at a seat on the dais. Rizo was defeated by Rick Koch for the District 5 seat in November 2018.
Carey, an office manager who has lived in Kyle for the past 12 years, is making her first run for a city council seat. In 2017, Carey unsuccessfully ran for the Hays CISD Board of Trustees District 1 seat.
Joining them are a pair of political newcomers who are entering the fold. DeSalvo, a consultant who has lived in Kyle for roughly 19 months, tossed his hat into the ring, along with Kirkwood, a consultant who has lived in the city for about 27 years.
