Trying to get over or through a barbed wire fence is never a good idea.
But while the consequence for some Buda Police officers was a trip to the emergency room, the decision cost 53-year-old Mike Ramirez much more – the San Antonio resident is facing second degree felony charges because of the officers’ injuries.
Buda police were dispatched to Truck City Ford shortly after midnight on Nov. 19 for a business alarm, according to Brittany Tate, executive assistance to Buda Police Chief Bo Kidd.
“The security company had surveillance and was able to communicate with officers that a male subject was seen actively tampering with vehicles in the rear yard.”
As the officers approached, Ramirez took off “and attempted to jump over the barbed wire fence.”
He and the officers were treated for minor injuries before he was taken to jail.
Ramirez, who had no previous criminal history in Hays County, was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, second degree felonies, as well as burglary of a building, a third-degree felony, and criminal mischief $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. He remains behind bars under bonds totaling $65,000.
