The Dripping Springs Tigers volleyball team remained unbeaten in district play Friday after they dispatched the Crockett Cougars in straight sets at Tiger Gym.
The Tiger offense finished with 39 total kills in the match. Senior Mackenzie Murray took the lead with nine kills in the game, while Avery Kalsu was right behind Murray with eight kills. Kylar Raymond finished with seven kills total in the game.
Dripping Springs dominated the first set 25-8. The onslaught continued as the Tigers outran the Cougars in the second set 25-14, followed by a 25-12 third frame.
Five Dripping Springs players also recorded a combined 11 aces in the match; sophomore Clara Martin leading the team with four.
On the defensive side, Kalsu led the team with nine digs with Nicole Herbert behind her with eight. Kalsu said maintaining the same intensity is key as they near the end of the regular season.
“The season has been going really good. In my all four years of high school, this is for sure the best team that I have been a part of, which has been really cool,” said Kalsu. “And in district we have been playing really well and really steady which has kept our level of intensity up.”
Herbert cited a strong chemistry on the court as reason for their consistent play during district.
“Being on the team this year I think we really dialed in to focus on making minimal errors and focusing on first ball side out,” Herbert said. “Overall we have bonded really well by staying focused in the game and we have really gotten good this year.”
The Tigers continue district play Friday on the road at LBJ. Dripping Springs returns home Oct. 22 when they host Lockhart at 6:30 p.m.
