By virtue of a pair of wins to close the regular season, the Dripping Springs boys basketball team secured third place in 26-5A and a third straight postseason berth.
Dripping Springs (22-8) upended Travis 70-53 Feb. 12 to finish its home schedule, which was then followed by a 63-51 win over the Crockett Cougars in the regular season finale.
The Tigers opened postseason play Tuesday by taking on former district foe Boerne Champion at Canyon Lake High in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
So far this season, Tiger senior Enzo Arnold leads the team by scoring an average of 9.7 points per game, with junior Trace Young tallying 9.3 points per game this year. As a team, the Tigers have a 46 percent field goal percentage and have shot 35 percent from the three-point line.
On defense, Dripping Springs is averaging close to 30 rebounds per game, led by senior Nick Statz, who has secured an average of 5.4 boards in 14 contests. Dripping Springs has accumulated 54 total blocks and 172 total steals as a team this year. Statz leads the team with 22 blocks, while junior Xavier Philips has 33 steals.
