The southbound lanes of Interstate 35 in San Marcos were shut down for about an hour early Thursday in the wake of a collision between a passenger vehicle and a dump truck that killed two people.
The 204B exit off I-35 was closed for several hours as wreckage was cleared and investigators worked the scene.
According to a press release, the crash occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. at the 204B exit when a dump truck ran into the back of the passenger vehicle, which is believed to have stopped or slowed.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was declared dead at the scene and a passenger was later pronounced dead at Central Texas Medical Center. The driver of the dump truck, identified as 20-year-old Isaac Fettig of Spencer, TN was taken to Ascension Seton Hays for treatment of his injuries.
The deaths marked the 9th and 10th traffic fatalities of the year for San Marcos.
