A potent Dripping Springs rushing attack that amassed 382 total yards and eight touchdowns helped the Tigers to a 66-28 rout of the Seguin Matadors Friday night at Tigers Stadium.
With the win, Dripping Springs stays undefeated in District 12-5A, Division I and secures sole possession of first place with two games left in the regular season.
Tigers sophomore quarterback Preston Alford led the charge with four rushing touchdowns (1, 6, 11, and 5 yards) and 168 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Senior running back Curtis Cox shined by gaining 184 yards rushing and two scores on 22 total touches.
Dripping Springs other two rushing touchdowns came on a 1-yard run by junior Cameron O’Banan at the end of the first half, and a 22-yard dash by senior Tyler Herron in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers’ 17-6 halftime lead dwindled quickly in the third quarter as the Matadors scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions within six minutes. Seguin held a slim 20-17 lead at that time.
But Dripping Springs answered the call with 49 points in final 18 minutes of the game, including 42 points in the fourth quarter alone.
Senior linebacker Keith Teague closed the game with a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minutes.
