Smiles, hugs and even a few tears of joy were just a handful of the emotions experienced at Lehman High Dec. 18 as Lobo senior Lexi Bechtel and senior Devorah Urea each signed her letter of intent to play at the collegiate level in a ceremony held at The Den.
Bechtel, a standout pitcher and four-year letter winner on the Lehman High softball team, signed on to continue her playing career at Concordia University in Austin. Concordia University is a Division III school and competes in the American Southwest Conference (ASC). Joining Bechtel at her signing were parents Brett and Nancy Bechtel, as well as Lehman head softball coach Robert Young and assistant coach Karen Young.
Urea, who is entering her fourth year competing on the Lobo girls golf team, signed to continue playing at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Bethany College is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school and competes in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). Urea was joined by parents Joanna and Daniel Urea, as well as Lobo golf head coach Kent Smith and assistant coach Toby Robinson. Following her signing ceremony, Urea received the ultimate surprise when her brother, Jacob, who is in the U.S. Army and was recently deployed overseas to Europe, gave a Face Time call to congratulate Urea on her signing.
