Seven total Lehman turnovers, as well as a 21-point fourth quarter Austin Maroon barrage, hurt the Lobos in a 38-14 homecoming loss Friday at Bob Shelton Stadium.
Austin High wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when quarterback Charles Wright connected with Nick Anderson for a 21-yard touchdown pass on the game's opening drive.
The Maroons (2-1) followed with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown from defensive back Holdan O'Kelley, giving Austin a quick 14-0 lead less than 60 seconds into the game.
But the Lobos (1-2) struck back with an interception return for a score later in the first frame. A tipped pass fell into the hands of defensive back Roy Malett, who then scampered into the end-zone untouched for a three-yard touchdown to cut the Maroon lead to 14-7.
After a 33-yard Maroon field goal from kicker Dylan Davlia, Lehman responded with a 39-yard touchdown run from Keyshaun Williams, further cutting into Austin High's lead. The Maroons led 17-14 at intermission.
However, Austin High blew the game wide open in the fourth quarter highlighted by a pair of passing touchdowns from Wright. One score was a six-yard toss to Colby Kalbacher, while the other was a 54-yard strike to Anderson.
Maroon running back Grayson Davis added a 52-yard touchdown run later in the fourth quarter, sealing the 38-14 win.
