SAN ANTONIO – A 21-point first quarter outburst set the tone for the Wimberley Texans as they raced to a 42-12 upset win over the rival Geronimo Navarro Panthers in the Region IV, 4A, Division II final at the Alamodome.
With the win, Wimberley advances to play either West Orange-Stark or Silsbee in the 4A, Division II state semifinals next weekend. The victory also marks the second time in the past three seasons Wimberley's football team has reached the state semifinal round of the 4A, Division II playoffs.
Guiding the Texans was quarterback Cooper McCollum who accounted for all six Wimberley touchdowns in the contest. McCollum went 18 of 21 for 209 yards and five touchdowns passing, as well as 31 yards rushing on 9 carries and a score.
