Buda – The Buda Lions Club donated $500 to the Hays County Community Emergency Response Team.
CERT offers a nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that first responders rely on during disaster situations. In Hays County, the CERT volunteers are often seen providing food, water and other essentials at the site of disasters.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to take more active roles in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
The $500 donation was accepted July 5 by the Hays County Commissioners Court – funds may be used for any operational expenses as seen fit.
