Earlier
Officials have shut down FM 1626 between RM 967 and FM 2770 near Buda due to flooding issues on the roadway.
Mark Jones, Hays County Pct. 2 Commissioner, said authorities closed the road 30 minutes ago due to water over FM 1626 at Cole Springs Road. The road will remain closed until officials can "take care of the water," Jones said.
Heavy rainfall, along with a breach of a stock tank dam on private property along FM 1626, contributed to the flooding issues, Jones said.
"There's enough water on the road that you don't want cars going through it," Jones said.
The flooding problem has not reached Elm Grove Elementary, which is located on FM 1626, Jones said. However, Hays County officials continue to communicate with Hays CISD regarding the closure.
"We are hoping that the rain slows down enough to reopen the road before school is out," said a spokesperson in Jones' office.
