Buda Movies in the Park, June 15
The first movie of the summer season for Buda’s Movies in the park series will be “The Sandlot” on June 15. The movies will be hosted at a new location at the Buda Sportsplex. The movie starts at 8:45 p.m.
Summer Contest For Young Writers 2018
Buda library patrons aged 8 to 17 will get a chance to flex their writing muscles and show off their literary skill with the Friends of the Buda Library Summer Contest for Young Writers. The contest will feature a 8 to 12 age division and a 13 to 17 age division. Each entrant will submit a story of 500 words of less and only one entry per person. Entries will be judged based on the quality of writing, originality and subject matter. Finalists will be judged by writers, teachers and librarians. First place in each category will receive a $100 gift card. Prompt for the 8-12 division: “The sign said not to push the button, but I did.” Prompt for 13-17 division: “The envelope looked as though it had been in the mailbox for years. The writing was faded.” Deadline for submissions is July 12 and all must be handed to a Buda librarian. No email submissions accepted. More information can be found online at haysfreepress.com.
Summer Dialogues for Activism, June 15
The 2018 Summer Dialogues for Activism at the LBJ Museum of San Marcos will have two sessions dedicated to the theme of education from 9 a.m. to noon. Topics will cover “The Texas State Sit-In” and “Overcoming the School-to-Prison Pipeline.” Free coffee and snacks will be serve.
Juneteenth Charity BBQ, June 15-16
The Juneteenth Foundation in San Marcos is hosting their 24th Annual Juneteenth Charity BBQ Cook-off. The historical celebration will begin with a parade through the center of downtown San Marcos, a barbecue cook-off at San Marcos Plaza Park, and include music, food, fun and games.
Annual Camp Ben Reunion, June 15-22
The 122nd Camp Ben McCulloch Reunion will be held June 15-22, 2018 at Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, Texas. Throughout the eight day reunion everyone is welcome to join in on fun activities, music, dancing, camping and games.
