Officials identify four victims in deadly San Marcos fire

Four of the five victims recovered from the scene of the July 20 apartment fire in San Marcos have now been identified, according to a city of San Marcos press release.


Victims who have been identified are Haley Michele Frizzell, 19, of San Angelo, James Miranda, 23, of Mount Pleasant, David Ortiz, 21, of Pasedena and Dru Estes, 21, of San Antonio. Victims were identified by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, in coordination with Hays County Pct. 1.2 Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno.


All four victims, along with a fifth victim who remains unidentified pending DNA analysis, were found in building 500 of the Iconic Village Apartments. All four victims had been previously listed as missing.


Belinda Moats, 21, of Big Wells, is still listed as missing, according to the release.

The San Marcos Fire Marhsal's Office, in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Explosives National Response Team and the State Fire Marshal's Office will continue to investigate the fire.
