A Kyle couple has been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of their 21-month-old son in early July.
Stevie Dwayne Williams, 24, and Dazrine Ruth Chagoya-Williams, 20, were booked without incident into the Hays County Jail July 23, according to a city of Kyle press release. Both were charged with capital murder of a person under 10-years-old, along with injury to a child with serious bodily injury, which are all capital felonies. The latter charges are for injuries sustained by the couple's youngest child, who was removed from the home by Child Protective Services (CPS).
On July 4, Kyle Police officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Marquitos Drive in Kyle for a child not conscious or breathing.
Fire and EMS officials were on scene and attempted to revive the child when officers arrived. The victim ultimately passed away in the home, according to the release. Hays County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith pronounced the child deceased and ordered an autopsy.
Jeff Barnett, Kyle Police Chief, said in a statement officers "observed visible injuries" on the child's body, including bruising on his left and right rib area, as well as bruising on on the child's back and forehead. Reports indicate the couple's infant daughter was also found to have bodily injuries.
"Additional investigation found there were prior CPS reports involving the parents and the victim," Barnett said.
Both Williams and Chagoya-Williams are being held in the Hays County Jail. This story is developing. We will provide updates as information becomes available.
