A 35-win season that included a seventh-straight district title and a berth in the UIL state tournament led the Texas Girls Coaches Association to name Dripping Springs High head volleyball coach Michael Kane as one of its coaches of the year.
Kane was selected as the head coach for the Class 5A and 6A Blue All-Star team, which was selected by the TGCA volleyball committee, composed of member coaches of the association. Athletes selected by the TGCA to the all-star teams are juniors who will be seniors the next season. The committee also selects coaches for each all star team as well.
Kane, who has led the Tiger volleyball program for nine seasons, led the Tigers volleyball program to its first state tournament appearance since the 2015 season. Kane has guided the program to three trips to state in five seasons.
Joining Kane is junior Avery Kalsu, who was named to the Class 5A and 6A Red team. Kalsu finished the 2018 season with 256 kills and a team-high 850 assists. So far through three years on varsity, Kalsu has compiled more than 460 kills and 2,300 assists.
