An unidentified man suffered severe injuries Sept. 19 after he jumped off of the Robert S. Light bridge near Buda into traffic along southbound Interstate 35.
The man, who has not been identified, suffered extensive lower leg injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The current condition of the victim is unknown at this time. Authorities said no passing vehicles struck the victim.
“It all happened within a matter of 30 seconds. I remember thinking it was stupid to just sit there with his legs hanging off, but then I realized he was going to jump, and it happened.”

A local resident said they were traveling northbound along I-35 when they witnessed a man park on the bridge, sit on the edge with his hands together and jump off shortly after noon.
“It all happened within a matter of 30 seconds,” the witness said. “I remember thinking it was stupid to just sit there with his legs hanging off, but then I realized he was going to jump, and it happened.”
The witness said they pulled off the highway just as authorities arrived within minutes to block the inside lane of southbound I-35. Clay Huckaby, Buda Fire Department Chief, said authorities were dispatched to the incident around 12:11 p.m. Wednesday.
Brittany Tate, Buda Police public information officer, said the victim was not hit by a passing car on the highway. However, Tate said the man was going into surgery as injuries to his legs were “extensive.”
Multiple drivers stopped after witnessing the incident and reported it to police, the witness said.
