A new wine and beer garden that’s setting up shop at an existing mini-golf course is making its way to Dripping Springs.
Shady Greens Wine & Beer Garden, formally Magic Greens, had its soft opening Sept. 22 after receiving the green light from the city council earlier in the month.
With dozens of options for residents to get their alcoholic fix in and around the city, Shady Greens owners James and Carole George are looking to serve the community with local wine and beer.
“We want to develop the mini-golf course into a wine and beer garden with a family-friendly environment, so there is something for everyone in the family,” James said. “The community is responding and they want a place where everyone can have fun.”
After selling Magic Greens in 2015, the couple wanted to get back into the business, with the hopes of providing all-encompassing business model. They secured the same property again to start their new business venture.
The Georges also received the approval for food trucks on the property, which they plan to add as the business grows.
City Planner Anjali Naini said the food trucks can only operate during normal business hours, as the vendors are an extension of the service.
In addition to the mini-golf, alcohol and food trucks, the Georges are planning to include a swing set for children, a sandbox, picnic tables and lush greenery.
Their business model could thrive based on a high volume of alcohol sales in and around the city, according to mixed beverage gross receipts from the Texas Comptroller’s office.
According to the October mixed beverage report, Treaty Oak Brewing and Distilling Company sold $48,428 during the last quarter. Austin Java, a company that primarily serves coffee beverages, grossed $9,932, according to the same report.
Additionally, Deep Eddy Distilling Co., one of the biggest mixed beverage companies in Hays County, sold $71,491 worth of mixed beverages.
“We’ve spoken with the businesses in the surrounding areas and they are in support of our project,” Carole George said. “We (had) our soft opening in September and (plant to have) our grand opening some time in March.”
