A Kyle man was arrested late Wednesday after authorities suspect he shot and killed another man during an alleged narcotics transaction.
Francisco Antonio Cardona, 20, of Kyle, was booked into the Hays County Jail Thursday on a first-degree felony charge of murder.
According to a Hays County Sheriff's Office press release, law enforcement was dispatched to a home in the 500 block of Cody Lane around 11:23 p.m. Nov. 14. When they arrived, authorities found a woman administering CPR to a man, later identified as Sergio Rodriguez-Arevalo, 22, of Kyle, who had been shot multiple times.
Emergency officials transported Rodriguez-Arevalo to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Officials apprehended the suspect, later identified as Cardona, at the scene of the crime. According to the release, a preliminary investigation into incident revealed the shooting occurred over a narcotics transaction.
Authorities said both Cardona and Rodriguez-Arevalo had "extensive criminal histories." According to Hays County Jail records, Cardona was arrested Jan. 6 for assault of a public servant, a third-degree felony, along with misdemeanor charges of interfering with public duties, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
Cardona is being held in the Hays County Jail on $200,000 bond. The Hays County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
