AUSTIN – Five total touchdowns from quarterback Tanner Prewit led the Dripping Springs Tigers to a 49-7 victory over the Crockett Cougars (4-6) Thursday at Toney Burger Stadium.
Dripping Springs (8-2, 6-1) started the game off slow as they were tied with the Cougars 7-7 with 11:32 left in the second quarter.
However, Prewit and the offense picked up the pace and scored five more touchdowns before halftime. Prewit finished the game with six carries for 96 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while completing 10 of 15 passes for 122 yards and three passing touchdowns.
Tigers senior wide receiver Enzo Arnold caught four passes for 78 yards and one touchdown, while sophomore wide receiver Cameron O’banan caught two touchdowns on two catches for 34 yards. Senior running back Jake Cox also contributed to the run game with eight carries for 54 yards.
While the offense did their part in putting points up on the scoreboard in bunches, the Tiger defense held Crockett to only seven points, while forcing three turnovers. Interceptions by junior linebacker Hunter Northrup and senior defensive back Cole Cavender, as well as a fumble recovered by sophomore defensive back Carter King, provided the offense with advantageous field position and momentum throughout the game.
Field position played a big part in the game as the Tiger offense started in Crockett territory on six out of their seven the first half possessions.
The win puts Dripping Springs in the mix for a potential three-way tie for first place if LBJ defeats Seguin Friday. Dripping Springs could face either Manor, Cedar Park or Georgetown in the bi-district round of the playoffs next week.
