Dead skunk, bat lead to rabies alert in Buda

Buda city officials are alerting the public to a pair of seperate rabies cases that were discovered last week.

On May 13, a dead bat was found in the 1400 block of Heep Run in the Garlic Creek subdivision. A seperate case occurred Wednesday when a dead skunk was found inside the Aguirre Paint and Body Shop, located in the 17000 block of Interstate 35 south.

According to city officials, in both cases, the animals were untestable for rabies due to decomposition. However, as a precaution the state treats these types of cases as a positive rabies case.

If you think that you or someone else may have come into physical contact with either one of these animals, please call the City of Buda Animal Control at 1-512-312-1001 or the Hays County Health Department at 1-512-393-5525

Residents can also call the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at 1-254-778-6744.
