Kyle Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they suspect committed a string of forced entry daytime burglaries late last month.
Jeff Barnett, Kyle Police chief, said three homes in the 100 to 300 blocks of Amber Ash in the Amberwood subdivision and one home in the 300 block of Spring Branch Loop in the Spring Branch neighborhood were burglarized between Jan. 24 and Jan. 31.
The burglaries occurred between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and involved the suspect kicking in either the front or the back door of the homes to gain entry.
No homeowners were inside of the residences when the burglaries occurred, Barnett said. However, Barnett said the suspect is targeting electronics and firearms.
Police are currently viewing security camera surveillance footage submitted by residents who live near the burglarized homes, which captured the suspect committing the crimes.
Barnett said the suspect, who has not yet been identified, is driving a reddish looking vehicle. Authorities also believe the suspect may be ringing doorbells to gauge if homeowners are present in the home.
Kyle Police are also following several leads relating to the crime. The suspect "appears to show that he may walk with a slight limp," Barnett said.
Barnett said daytime burglaries are rare in Kyle, but do occur.
In February 2016, seven homes were burglarized in Kyle when individuals broke in after ringing doorbells to ensure no one was in the residence.
It’s not believed the two incidences are related.
“Although we have had daytime burglaries in Kyle, they’re uncommon in the city,” Barnett said. “It’s rare to have a daytime forced entry. We’re fortunate that our citizenry are sharing their security camera footage with us.”
Anyone who may have information on the suspect or has information relating to the burglaries should call Kyle Police at 512.268.3232.
Because weapons were stolen from the residences, Barnett said it’s assumed the suspect could be armed. Those who may see the suspect are asked not to approach him and immediately call authorities.
