For the first time in 16 years, the Dripping Springs Tiger boys basketball team is heading to the regional tournament.
On Tuesday, Dripping Springs defeated Angleton 49-44 in the regional quarterfinal at Columbus High.
Dripping Springs (24-13) advances to the Class 5A, Region IV tournament where they play Laredo Martin in Friday's regional semifinal. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Northside Sports Gym in San Antonio. The Tigers' appearance marks the first time since 2001 the Tigers have advanced to the regional tournament.

The Tigers’ basketball team has been on a roll. Dripping Springs hasn’t lost a game since a bitter 56-55 loss at home to Alamo Heights on Jan. 31, and they ended the regular season with thrilling two-point wins over Kerrville (46-44) and Seguin (56-54). In the playoffs, the Tigers staved off Reagan, 62-56 to win bi-district and won area by defeating Lamar Consolidated 54-51. At press time the Tigers face Angleton in a Regional Quarterfinal game at Columbus on Tuesday, Feb. 28. A win will advance the Tigers to the Regional Tournament held at Northside ISD in San Antonio on March 3 and 4.
