A Hays County Sheriff's Office investigation into the death of a 17-year-old Hays High senior is ongoing as authorities continue to determine a cause, according to a Hays CISD press release.
District officials were notified late Friday of the death of Xavier Jacaman, 17, who was a member of the Class of 2017, according to the release.
However, details surrounding the death of Jacaman are unknown at this time. The HCSO is investigating.
On Friday, an email was sent to Hays CISD parents and staff regarding Jacaman's death. Tim Savoy, Hays CISD public information officer, said in the letter the district's crisis counseling team will be on hand for students and staff at Hays High Monday.
"As you know, the loss of a friend or peer can trigger different emotional responses in teens. Understanding and working through loss is regrettably something we have experienced far too often in recent weeks and years," Savoy said in his email to parents. "I am grateful that, together, we all make up a remarkable care network in Hays CISD for those of us who are hurting most."

I am emailing you on behalf of Principal David Pierce and I am saddened to have to share with you that one of our students, 17-year-old Xavier Jacaman, has died. We learned this information late tonight from authorities who are still investigating the cause of death. This is clearly very sad news for the Hays Rebel community and for his friends and family. Xavier was a member of the Hays High School Class of 2017.
On Monday, our crisis counseling team will be on campus to talk with students and staff members who may need counseling support. As you know, the loss of a friend or peer can trigger different emotional responses in teens. Understanding and working through loss is regrettably something we have experienced far too often in recent weeks and years.
