WIMBERLEY – Art can be made of anything.

When there is a large silo sitting on the community grounds, the Alexis Pointe’s Senior Living residents thought it would only be appropriate to have a Wimberley-themed mural painted on it. In order to do this, Alexis Pointe needs to raise funds to get the Call for Artist project announced – their total fundraising goal is $5,000.

All funds will be submitted to the nonprofit, Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA), who will be managing the Call for Artist while also making sure the selected artist gets compensated. Supplies, materials and promotions will also be paid through the funds raised.

“The goal of this project is to provide a beautiful, public art piece that will be enjoyed as the new view for Alexis Pointe senior residents,” said Katy Starr, Community Relations Director. “This mural will become an iconic public art piece that the greater Wimberley community and visitors can enjoy for years to come.”

Starr explained that Alexis Pointe presented the mural idea to the Wimberley City Council at one of the previous meetings and it was approved. While the silo is on Alexis Pointe property, the mural will become part of a local mural route open for visitors and locals to enjoy.

Artists should consider the local theme of the wall, alongside the ideas of the Alexis Pointe residents: Texas wildflowers, sunset or sunrise, wide open Texas sky with puffy clouds, lavender /verbena, birds/ “white wing dove,” fox, longhorn, river/pond, landscape, windmill, deer, trail that goes throughout the scene and Wimberley history.

Along with the WVACA, Ace Hardware and the city of Wimberley are considered to be important players throughout this process

The mural will be painted on the silo in front of Alexis Pointe, which is 110 ft. in circumference and 6.5 feet tall, located on 14100 Ranch Rd 12 Ste 1 in Wimberley.

Anyone interested in contributing to the public art project can visit the WVACA site: https://wimberleyarts.org/donate/ (Alexis Pointe Senior Living Mural Project). Donators can also send a check to WVACA at this address: PO Box 608, Wimberley TX 78676. Checks can be made out to “Wimberley Valley Arts & Cultural Alliance” and state the reason as ‘Alexis Pointe Mural.’

“Please support our seniors and artists to get this special project off the ground,” Starr added.
