DRIPPING SPRINGS – If you’ve ever been to a sports game at Dripping Springs High School (DSHS), there’s a chance you’d have met Marvin Myers, who recently celebrated his 74th birthday on April 28.

He’s been attending the games for the past 22 years, arguably making him the number one fan of Dripping Springs athletics.

A dedicated local of the town, Myers is consistently in the stands, whether it be football, baseball, football or soccer. The fan loves live games and can be regularly found at the fields, sitting in his fold-out chair.

As a 1966 DSHS graduate, he has been a long-time supporter of the school and community. It also helps that his home is built right on the other side of the stadium.

“I went to school here, I graduated in 66. I’ve been here all my life. I’ve got two boys who went through school here and my wife was in the same grade as me,” Myers said. “I just like sports. I’ve liked it all my life. I retired in 2000, and ever since, I’ve lived right behind the stadium, so I don’t miss many.”

Myers currently has four grandchildren, with three of them in sports and one of them was previously a cheerleader. His grandson is a sophomore who plays baseball and football, while both his granddaughters play volleyball. When his son was in school, Myers could be found at the booster clubs, frying fish and serving people at the concessions. Today, many of the coaches and players are still familiar with him.

“I put in my two cents; the coaches come to me and shake my hand every time I’m out there, and thank me for being there,” Myers said. “There’s been some good games and some bad games, but I can’t really pick out one favorite.”

Before retiring, Myers worked at the Texas Department of Transportation for 31 years and now owns a ranch with his wife of 53 years. Myers says that he has easily been to over 100 games, although admits he doesn’t have an exact count.

“How many? There ain’t no telling that,” Myers said. “I just try to show and play my part.”

Next time you’re out at a game, you might be sitting next to the team’s number one fan.
