One man was killed and another was injured Monday after the moving truck they were in struck an 18-wheeler along Interstate 35 in Kyle, forcing the closure of the highway for several hours.

Austin Wallace Prince, 28, was identified as the victim in the accident following notification of next of kin, according to Beth Smith, Hays County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace.  The identities of the injured victim and the driver of the 18-wheeler have not yet been released.

Jeff Barnett, Kyle Police Chief, said in a statement the accident happened around 6:40 p.m. Monday on the northbound lanes of I-35 near mile marker 211 in Kyle.

Officers believe the 18-wheeler while slowing down and pulling over to the shoulder was hit from behind by a moving truck. A man in the truck, identified as Prince, was killed in the crash. Another man in the truck was taken to an Austin area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.

Smith was called to the crash site. Officials shut down the highway for roughly four hours to investigate the scene.
