The prospect of an outright 26-5A championship is slowly coming into focus for the Dripping Springs Tigers after they walloped the Medina Valley Panthers 41-0 at Tiger Stadium Friday.
Dripping Springs’ (8-0, 6-0) senior night win helped the Tigers claim at least a share of the district championship heading into the team’s final regular season game next week.
Both the Dripping Springs and Medina Valley defenses got off to hot starts Friday.
The first three drives of the game for each team ended with the opposing defense coming away with a fumble recovery.
The Tigers eventually composed themselves and ran away with the first half. Junior Jake Cox led the way and ran for 91 yards on nine carries and punched in two touchdowns for the Tigers.
Fellow Tiger junior Tanner Prewitt intercepted a Panther screen pass and returned it for a 36-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The undefeated Tigers went into halftime with a solid 28-0 lead over the visiting Panthers.
Dripping Springs rode its rushing attack for another score to kick off the second half and extended their lead to 35-0.
Dripping Springs tallied its final score of the game in the fourth quarter via a 34-yard Ryan Davenport touchdown pass to Taylor Ponton.
The Tigers close the 2017 regular season on the road at Marble Falls on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
