Mary Edna Lanzer Seay, 73, died Monday August 21, 2017 after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born August 22, 1943, in Union City, Tennessee to Herman Arthur Lanzer and Doris Mae Cochran Lanzer.
Over the course of Mary’s life she practiced many disciplines. She worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell, a secretary for the St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Port
Neches, Texas, an insurance billing clerk for Market Basket pharmacies, and finally as a dedicated homemaker. Mary spent her time in the service of others: her children, her church, and her community. She enjoyed making quilts and blankets for friends and family (especially their babies), as well as for a local boys home. She volunteered at the Area Agency for Aging, assisting members of the elderly community with budgeting and bill pay. Also, she founded and volunteered at a Mothers’ Day Out Daycare program aimed at helping stay-at-home mothers find time to themselves. In her years as a homemaker, Mary raised her three children, and in June of 2002 she moved to Dripping Springs where she helped raise her two grandchildren.
Along with her mother and father, Mary is preceded in death by her two sisters Doris Virginia Beauchamp and Sandra K. Harris, and her niece Cathy Beauchamp. Mary is survived by her husband, Richard Seay of Dripping Springs, Texas; her sister Nancy Owens of Leewood, Kansas; her three children Kimberly Seay Edmondson of Kendalia, Texas, Barbara Seay of Austin, Texas, and Brad Seay of San Antonio, Texas; her two grandchildren Caleb and Tristan Smith, of Austin, Texas; several nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. It seems wholly appropriate, even poetic, that she passed on the day of the Great American Eclipse—a brilliant, fiery woman dimmed momentarily by malady before assuming the glory of her celestial body.
