After a solid campaign that finished with a postseason appearance last year, the Hays Lady Rebels look to maintain that momentum going into 2018.
Head Coach Brent Holcomb, who has helmed the Lady Rebels since 2012, is coming off of an 8-6-2 season that ended with the Lady Rebels falling to San Antonio Reagan in the first round of the playoffs.
Hays, which finished 6-5-1 in district in 2017, lost a couple of seniors to graduation, but a majority of the crew that made an impact last season is returning.
Hays outscored its opponents 35-25 last season, but may need more offense this season to take that next step.
Junior midfielders Jenna Sheeley and Gabby Segovia will carry the load offensively for the Lady Rebels this season. Both were named as first team 25-6A All-District selections a year ago.
Junior Sydney Franklin and Sophomore Cianne Talamo will also look to contribute on the offensive side of the game. The offense recorded 35 goals a year ago, but to keep up with the high-powered offenses of district opponents Vandegrift and Lake Travis, the Rebels may need to improve offensively.
The core of the defense will be returning for the 2018 season.
The goal keeper spot is locked down for the Rebels as senior Alexis Spears returns for the Rebels this season. Spears, who earned second team All-District honors in 2017, will be the rock for the defense.
Senior defenders Baylee Endsley and Chasity Haas, who were also second team All District selections last season, will be key in keeping goals off the scoreboard. Junior Grace Davis will also play a big role defensively.
COMING UP
The Lady Rebels will start their 2018 campaign Jan. 2 against New Braunfels on the road before traveling to Spring Branch, Texas for the Ranger Classic on Jan. 5 and 6.
