While it wasn’t always easy Friday, the Hays Rebels (24-10, 5-1) notched a critical road win by sweeping the Lake Travis Cavaliers 27-25, 25-18, 25-22.
The victory, which was the Rebels’ fifth win in a row, now sets the team up for a match that may determine first place in district when they host rival Westlake (20-15, 5-1) at Bales Gym Friday.
A trio of Rebels finished with 10 or more kills Friday, which was highlighted by sophomore Ryann Torres, who had a double-double with 13 kills and 15 assists.
Rebel Senior Kaitlyn Krafka had 12 kills while junior Catherine Croft had 10.
On the defensive end, Hays used its size to tally 11 total blocks on the night. Junior Jamie Agnew finished with six blocks, while senior Kacie Hall and Krafka each had three.
Three Rebels also finished with double-digit digs with Krafka leading the team with 18. Junior Kayla Tello had 17 digs.
Junior Sierra Dittmar finished with 11 digs and a team high 26 assists.
Hays now readies for its third match against Westlake, which is coming off a narrow five set loss to Vandegrift.
The Rebels defeated the Chaparrals in two sets during the John Turner Classic in Pearland.
However, Westlake returned the favor with a 3-0 win over Hays on Sept. 12.
First serve between Hays and Westlake is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
