Dorothy Hauptrief passed peacefully from this world and into a new life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 28, 2017. She will be joining her husband Jesse who predeceased her. Originally from Kyle, TX, Dorothy lived a full and wonderful life of over 93 years. At the time of her passing, she was living in Fredericksburg, TX, where she was a resident at Heritage Manor Assisted Living.

Dorothy was born to Victor Lawrence Buaas and Henrietta Bertha Buaas in San Antonio, TX, on December 24, 1923. An only child, she grew up among many family members in the San Antonio and Austin area. Dorothy was a graduate of Breckenridge High School and Durham Business School in San Antonio. In 1942, she met Jesse Hauptrief from Kyle, TX, and they were married on January 31, 1943. After marriage they returned to Kyle where Jesse started his auto repair and sales business. Dorothy worked in the office using the skills she learned in Durham Business School. She was a loving wife and mother of 5 children. She became involved in the Kyle community, which included being an active member of the United Methodist Church and later the First Baptist Church. Her life, along with Jesse, was committed to active Christian service, including leadership roles in the churches they attended. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of San Marcos, TX.

Dorothy was the proud and loving mother of her children and their spouses. They are Jesse Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Melissa, TX, Kay Guenther and husband, Wayne, of San Antonio, TX, Larry and wife, Patsy, of Johnson City, TX, Terry and wife, DeAnn, of Mountain City, TX, and Kerry and wife, Shirley, of New Braunfels, TX. Dorothy also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her special gift is a legacy of love and caring for her large family, always remembering birthdays and other special days.

She especially enjoyed doing things for others throughout her life. One of those was a hobby of painting. She shared her hobby with both family and her friends wherever she lived. There are many of her paintings in the homes of her family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will have remembrances of her hobby.

Visitation will be held at Pennington Funeral Home at 323 Comanche St in San Marcos, TX, on Friday October 13, 2017, from 6-8 pm, with the funeral services on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 10 am, followed by the graveside service at the Kyle Cemetery in Kyle, TX.
