Despite a loss to San Antonio Jay, a handful of moral victories could be key for a Lobo team that eyes a positive start to district play. Lehman’s defense, which gave up only one score in the second half last week, will have its hands full against a Vista Ridge offense that features several key playmakers. Vista Ridge, which has averaged 32 points per game this season, will bring its multiple threat ground attack of QB Jacob Taute, RB Joe Goodwin and RB Jamil Pittman, who rushed for a combined 362 yards and six touchdowns last week. Lehman’s offense, however, may find success against a Vista Ridge defense that’s given up 40 points over the course of four games. Look for the Lobos to rely on playmakers such as WR Bryant Lewis, RB’s Kaleb Priestly and Diego Romero. Staying healthy will be the big factor in whether the Lobo offense can find success.
Hays Rebels (1-3) at Lake Travis Cavaliers (3-1)

The Hays Rebels face a tall task Friday when they attempt to break a three-game losing streak against the defending Class 6A, Division I state champions. They’ll have to do so by stopping one of the more prolific offenses in Texas. The Cavaliers have compiled close to 2,000 yards of total offense in only four games. QB Matt Baldwin has so far thrown for 1,368 yards and 17 touchdowns. On offense, the Rebels will have to avoid a sluggish start if they aim to keep pace. QB Xavier Martinez and RB Thai Mayberry lead a rush attack that’s compiled 950 yards. The Rebels will attempt to crack a Lake Travis defense that shut down a strong Hendrickson team last week. However, the Cavaliers have also given up 35 points per game. But can the Rebels put four entire quarters together in all phases of the game? That’s the question they’ll need to answer.
Dripping Springs Tigers (4-0, 1-0) at Seguin Matadors (2-2, 1-0)

History was made earlier in the week when the Dripping Springs Tigers earned a spot in the Associated Press Class 5A state poll. The Tigers will put its No. 10 ranking to the test when they travel to take on a Seguin program that’s on a roll. Dripping Springs brings an offense that’s steamrolled over its first four opponents. Led by QB Trevor Greenman, Dripping Springs has outscored opponents 163-66. Meanwhile, a stingy Tiger defense faces a tough test in a balanced Matador attack. Three Seguin QB’s have compiled 100 or more passing yards and are led by Anthony Gonzalez. The Matadors also feature a bruising two-pronged run attack in Brandon Palomarez and Clarence Tibbs.
