As the deadline for election filing for the November 2017 election draws near, current Buda Mayor Todd Ruge sends a heartfelt farewell letter to Buda residents as he bows out of the spotlight after deciding not to seek re-election.

Ruge gave an exclusive press release to the Hays Free Press on Friday, July 21, stating that he believes “it’s time to pursue different opportunities and new adventures.”

Ruge also stated in the letter that he believes in term limits for elected officials and thinks change is a good thing for the city and the residents of Buda.

Ruge expressed his gratitude in the letter for his supporters and his opponents alike, as well as his fellow city council members, city staff and his wife Elizabeth, adding “it’s not easy being the spouse of an elected official and I couldn’t have done this without her.”

“I would like to thank the many citizens who encouraged me through the years; I’d also like to thank my critics because you opened my eyes to different points of view and made me a better leader,” Ruge said, “I would like to thank all current and former councilmembers who helped and encouraged me along the way.  I would also like to thank city staff for all their hard work in making our vision a reality.”

Ruge admitted that there have been a few “bumps in the road” during his tenure as mayor of Buda, but says he has “tried to act in the best interest of Buda as a whole and do what’s best for Buda.”

“It has truly been an honor to serve the community as mayor the last five years,” Ruge said.

The deadline for election filing for the November 2017 election is Aug. 6.

Buda Mayor Todd Ruge's Letter to Buda Citizens

"Open Letter to the citizens of Buda:
After much thought and consideration I have decided not to seek re-election this November.  I believe it’s time to pursue different opportunities and new adventures.   I’m a firm believer in term limits and feel that change is a good thing.  I would like to thank the many citizens who encouraged me through the years; I’d also like to thank my critics because you opened my eyes to different points of view and made me a better leader.  I have always tried to act in the best interest of Buda as a whole and do what’s best for Buda.  Obliviously there have been a few bumps in the road but I believe those pale in comparison to the great things we have accomplished as a Council.  I would like to thank all current and former Councilmember’s who helped and encouraged me along the way.  I would also like to thank City Staff for all their hard work in making our vision a reality.  It has truly been an honor to serve the community as Mayor the last five years.
Lastly, but most importantly I would like to thank my wife Elizabeth.  It’s not easy being the spouse of an elected official and I couldn’t have done this without her.
 Regards
Todd Ruge, Mayor"
