What’s in a name?
What’s in a name?

If you’ve been following video games for any length of time, you have probably heard of “The Last of Us.” In many instances, you didn’t have to play the game to understand that culture that surrounds it. If you still hadn’t heard of it, maybe you did from the HBO series that aired last year while breaking viewership records. This series is where my column title, “Wolves never look up,” comes from.

You will never get these days back
You will never get these days back

'One day, you're 17 and you're planning for someday. And then quietly, without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life.' - John Green ——— I talk to my mom on the phone almost every day. We talk about how our day went, funny stories about her students, what’s for dinner at our houses, something that my beagle Finn did that day and when the next season of “Virgin River” is supposed to come out because we were left on a cliffhanger.

'And that has made all the difference:' On Frost, goodbyes, new beginnings

“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same …” — Robert Frost

Did I stutter?

I’m sure you’ve heard the infamous phrase, 'Did I stutter?' It’s used often when someone does not understand what the other person is saying.

Journalism felt like a second nature
Journalism felt like a second nature

“I think journalism gets measured by the quality of information it presents, not the drama or the pyrotechnics associated with us.” — Bob Woodward ——— Like many other little girls, I took the whole “dream big” advice seriously. If you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, at 8 years old, I would’ve told you, “I want to be the first woman president, and my priority after taking office would be to paint the White House lime green because it is my favorite color.” Thankfully, I have two wonderful parents who have always fully supported any aspirations I’ve had throughout my life (including the two months following the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster when I wanted to be an astronaut).

Test scores are just a number
Test scores are just a number

“You've done all of your homework and studied hard, and you think you have a grip on the material. But then the day of the test comes. Suddenly, you blank out, freeze up, zone out, or feel so nervous that you can't get it together to respond to those questions you knew the answers to just last night.” — Nemours TeensHealth ——— Test anxiety is a type of performance anxiety — a feeling someone might have when performance counts or when the pressure’s on to do well.
