HAYS COUNTY — As spring fades to summer and temperatures soar, Kyle Police Department, Wimberley ISD and Hays CISD officials are taking a proactive approach to idle hands and less adult supervision in order to warn students and parents alike of a dangerous drug — fentanyl.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF HAYS CISD Whether it’s continuing on to college or a university, a trade school, enlisting in the military or even just readying to enter the workforce, Lehman High School seniors were eager to celebrate the next phase of their educational careers during Decision Day 2023 on May 1. This annual event, led by Lehman Principal Karen Zuniga and the Lobo administrative and counseling staff, was held in celebration of National College Decision Day, which is typically the deadline for prospective college students to accept admission to their school of choice prior to the fall semester. This year, more than 70 Lobo seniors participated in this always emotional and joyous ceremony.

— On Tuesday, April 25, the Hays CISD Board of Trustees approved the superintendent’s recommendation to employ Christina Courson as the chief human resources officer and Tim Robinson as the deputy human resources officer.

— Early voting for the May 6 election wrapped up on Tuesday, May 2.

HAYS COUNTY — Hays CISD voters will decide on more than $367 million worth of districtwide improvements through a bond election to be held on Saturday, May 6.

As of the first day of early voting for the May 6 election, there were 626 voters for Dripping Springs ISD and 98 for Hays CISD, according to Hays County Elections Office data.

BUDA — Upon entering Johnson High School on Saturday April 22, real-life princesses in ball gowns opened the doors and music from a simpler time played through the sound system. Turning the corner to enter the cosmetology center, where the event would be taking place, the music became muffled by laughter and talks of who each other’s favorite princesses were.

The STAAR test looks different this year for students.
