For Hays CISD band director Joey Lucita, music is his favorite thing, both listening to it and taking part in creating it. Nothing brings him more happiness than watching his band students perform. From the daily grind practices to state competitions, this is his passion.

Water polo has only recently become a sport available for the students of Hays CISD, with 2022-23 being the first season. However, it is quickly becoming a known and loved sport within the student body as the players and coaches are putting passion and energy into the game and into promoting it to the students and fans. With this, in addition to high school football, basketball and baseball stars, schools are now starting to have stars in aquatic sports. A prime example is Alissa Villarreal of Lehman High School.

On Friday, Nov. 3, the Lehman High School Lobos and Hays High School Hawks faced off in the annual Hays County rivalry game.

HAYS COUNTY — A former Hays CISD substitute teacher was sentenced Sept. 18 before Judge Sherri K. Tibbe to 10 years in state prison, suspended for 10 years — or 10 years of community supervision — in relation to a November 2019 incident involving a student at Lehman High School.

SAN MARCOS — Following a bond reduction hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 22 in the case against Jaquell Desean Ray, 18, of Buda, Judge Tanner Neidhardt granted the defense’s motion to set bond at a total of $100,000 for charges of firstdegree murder and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, a second-degree felony.

KYLE — Seven-year-old Azariah Silguero is headed to the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics with the support of his family and the community.
