13 Hays women powerlifters advance

A total of 13 Hays CISD powerlifters will be on the road to the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi to participate in the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) 6A state meet. All qualified for state during the THSWPA Region II, Division I meet at Lehman High on Saturday. The Lehman girls powerlifting team highlighted the day by finishing second overall, scoring 23 points in the meet. In total, the Lady Lobos will send ten powerlifters to Corpus Christi. That includes Kali Palomarez, Anamarie Farjardo and Mery Vargas, who all reached state last year. Hays powerlifting qualified three athletes. All seek to mimic the success of Natalie Guerra, who won the state championship in her weight class in 2014.

Chloe Arana – 105 lbs class 

Chloe Borst – 114 lbs weight class

Kali Palomarez – 132 lbs class 

Rubylee Perez – 132 lbs class 

Mery Vargas – 132 lbs class 

Alexis Ysla – 148 lbs class 

Tina Perez – 165 lbs class 

Evelyn Ramirez – 198 lbs class 

Melysa Alvarez – 220+ lbs class

Claudia Norman – 123 lbs class 

Madison Spears – 181 lbs class
