Staff Report on December 31, 2015
Best of 2015: New school to be named TC McCormick Middle School

After months of vetting through recommendations from the public at large, the Hays CISD board of trustees in December officially selected Dr. T.C. McCormick Jr. as the namesake for the district’s sixth middle school. McCormick served as Buda’s physician beginning in 1946 and had delivered anywhere from 1,600 to 1,800 children. McCormick was selected due to his early pioneering work on desegregation in Buda school district, and also for the many years he spent serving on the school board when Buda was still its own school district. It was during his school presidency that he was instrumental in integrating the Buda schools. The school district received upward of 200 recommendations from the public, which was then whittled down to 16 finalists. Finalists include Dr. Jesse Porras, Jr., Elaine Meye, Jim Cullen, Katherine Ann Porter, Michael Russo.
