HAYS COUNTY -- Hays CISD announced that all afterschool activities are cancelled today.
"Out of an abundance of caution and because of the threat of severe weather late this afternoon into this evening," said Tim Savoy, chief communications officer, in an email to parents, "Hays CISD is cancelling all after school activities for today, Monday, March 21, 2022."
School will release at normal time, which begins for elementary schools in about 20 minutes.
Highlights from the specific forecast for HCISD include:
Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop to the West of I-35 beginning around 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., then gradually increase in number as they move/develop East/Northeast into the I-35 corridor by around 5:00 p.m. The activity will then shift to the East of I-35 by 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The primary severe threat will likely be that of hail, which could become large in some cases as the weather activity moves into the area right along I-35 toward 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
As the activity begins to shift to the East of I-35 by 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., a risk of a tornado will increase, as well as the potential for damaging wind gusts. The risk of tornado activity will further increase as the activity moves further to the East of I-35 this evening.
"Stay safe and dry and make sure you monitor the weather at home for any warnings that may be issued," Savoy said.
