KYLE The Kyle Police Department has arrested a man following an investigation into a fatal crash.

Alejandro Ortiz-Fernandez

At approximately 9:55 p.m. Aug. 23, officers responded to a major crash involving a motorcycle near exit 213 on southbound IH-35. The motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Angelina Duran of Austin, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

During the investigation, witnesses told police they saw Duran racing with a gray Audi before the crash. Using witness statements, dash camera footage and automated license plate reader technology, officers identified the driver of the Audi as Alejandro Ortiz-Fernandez, 20, of Manor.

Ortiz-Fernandez was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 15, and charged with racing on a highway resulting in serious bodily injury or death, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

“The Kyle Police Department reminds drivers that racing and reckless driving can have tragic consequences,” a KPD representative said. “We will continue to enforce traffic laws to help keep our roadways safe.”
