Hays County offices will be closed for holiday hours, but those wishing to pay taxes on the last day of the year have no fear.
The county will close for Christmas and New Year’s holidays Wednesday - Friday, Dec. 23-25. Office again will close Thursday - Friday, Dec. 31 - Jan. 1.
Commissioners court will not be held on Dec. 22 and Dec. 29.
Because property taxes can be paid on the last day of the year and still county against a taxpayers personal federal taxes for 2015, Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway said all payments received in person at the tax office on Jan. 4, 2016, will be dated Dec. 31, 2015.
The in-person payments can be made at all tax collection offices throughout the county.
“However, mail in payments will still have to have a Dec. 31 or earlier postmark in order to be treated as a payment in 2015,” Caraway said.
Other holiday special hours include:
The County Clerk’s Office in the Government Center in San Marcos will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in December and will return to a 6 p.m. closing on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 6. It will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 17.
The clerk’s Kyle substation at the Precinct 2 Office will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 17 and will not close for lunch. Both offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Dec. 18. The county clerk’s Kyle substation will be closed from Dec. 21, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016.
The Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 Office in Buda will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
The Constable Precinct 3 Office in Wimberley will close at noon on Dec. 22.
The Law Library in the Government Center will be closed on Dec. 22 and Dec. 29-30.
