KYLE — Following an arrest in Tennessee, murder suspect Larry Simon ,52, has been reindicted with capital murder for a 2015 double homicide in Kyle.
This follows a dismissal in 2024 for “further investigation,” as previously reported by the Hays Free Press.
Simon was originally charged with capital murder after the Kyle Police Department responded to a call for a welfare check on Sledge Street after 45-year-old James Wright’s father had failed to contact his son for multiple days. Upon arriving, a foul smell was noted. Officers were able to enter the home, where they discovered the deceased bodies of Wright and Tina Combs, 44, who both suffered gunshot and knife wounds.
During the investigation, Simon, who allegedly had a black eye, arrived on scene, stating that he was a friend of Wright and was coming to check on him. Several interviews and investigations led police to believe that Simon was dishonest on his whereabouts during the homicide, as well as the admission that items of Wright's had been pawned.
“Simon also stated to [the officer] that since [they] have been talking, he started wondering if he did do ‘this’ [murdering Wright and Combs],” read the affidavit.
According to KPD, Simon was arrested in Bedford County, Tenn. in connection with the homicides.
"I want to commend our detectives for the work they have put into this case over the years," said KPD Chief Jeff Barnett. “This arrest reflects their commitment to justice and we hope it provides a meaningful measure of closure for the victims' families."
Simon is being held in the Bedford County Jail pending extradition to Hays County, where he will face the charge and await trial. .
