Escaped inmate apprehended in Houston

Staff report

An escaped inmate trustee who has been on run and the woman aiding him were both apprehended in the early morning hours Friday in Houston.

According to a Hays County press release, Omar Maya-Rangel, 29, and Marinda Seawright, 32, were arrested in Houston at approximately 4 a.m.

The two were arrested after an officer conducted a traffic stop on their vehicle and recognized the subjects. The officer was able to confirm their identities.

Maya-Rangel faces a charge of Escape, while Seawright faces a charge of Permitting or Facilitating Escape.

An additional charge of Fail to Identify was also added after the two gave false information to the officer.

Maya-Rangel, an inmate trustee, escaped from the Hays County Jail Wednesday after he was performing landscape work in front of the facility.

On Thursday, Hays County said Maya-Rangel was aided by Seawright, who facilitated his escape by providing him a ride in her vehicle.

According to Hays County, Maya-Rangel and Seawright were involved in a relationship for some time.

Maya-Rangel and Seawright are awaiting transport back to Hays County.
