Approximately $262 million in emergency funds have been assigned to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for July, in an ongoing response to the pandemic.

“As the pandemic continues to impact Texas families,” said Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter, “we will continue to provide support to these families through emergency SNAP benefits, which allow the purchases of healthy, nutritious foods.”

Expansion of the funds will provide a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments to SNAP households; amounts are based on family size. SNAP recipients will continue to receive a 15% increase in their total benefits, which will continue until September 2021. This increase and the additional emergency allotment is expected to appear in recipients’ accounts by July 31.

The July emergency funds are in addition to more than $3.69 billion in benefits which have been provided to Texans since April 2020.

"Thank you to HHSC for continuing to provide these crucial food benefits to so many Texas families," said Governor Greg Abbott. "With the support of HHSC and the USDA, families across the state can continue to put food on the table for their loved ones."
