President and CEO of the Greater San Marcos Partnership, Amy Madison, recently resigned to pursue another business opportunity.
The partnership (GSMP) is a 501(c)6 regional economic development corporation that serves Hays and Caldwell counties, and focuses on directing future growth and positioning the region for a wider diversity of quality jobs with higher wages, according to their website.
Hays County Pct. 3 Commissioner and GSMP Chairman Will Conley announced Madison’s departure from the partnership in a press release Tuesday.
“Amy was highly successful in developing and launching the partnership,” Conley said. “Her efforts brought together two counties and seven cities to implement a regional economic development strategy. Her positive energy and work ethic will be missed.”
During the past two years, Madison assisted with bringing in 310 new business recruitment jobs and 643 expansion jobs in the San Marcos region. The partnership also received recognition as the top New Economic Development Program in the state from the Association of Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive, and the Economic Development Excellence Award from the Texas Economic Development Council.
“I am proud of the many accomplishments during my tenure that have positioned the greater San Marcos region as an enviable business environment,” Madison said. “The work has been demanding, but professionally rewarding. With the five-year strategic plan either accomplished or near completion in 2.5 years, it is a good time to transition.”
GSMP administers separate contracts with Hays County and San Marcos for economic development services. “The Greater San Marcos Partnership is poised to help strengthen the regional community and promote the economic environment and quality of life to national and global prospects,” states their website.
With Madison’s departure, the partnership will begin a nationwide search to find a new president/CEO, according to the press release. Conley will chair the search committee.
Details of the search committee will be finalized and approved by the GSMP Board of Directors and should be announced in the coming weeks.
Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Lockhart and Luling are featured in the partnership’s community profiles.
GSMP is a nonprofit Texas partnership of public-private investors, which include Kyle, Buda Economic Development Corporation (EDC), San Marcos, Hays County, Luling EDC, Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, San Marcos CISD and the Chambers of Commerce for the San Marcos Area and Lockhart, among many others. The partnership’s website states they have 75 investor partners — seven public partners and 68 private partners. The funding ratio is 61 percent public and 39 percent private, though the partnership’s goal is to be funded by a 50/50 split for both public and private investors.
The Milkin Institutes 2012 Best-Performing Cities List ranked the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos MSA as number two, up from fourth place the previous year.
