Buda seniors have a new center to love
Join the Buda Chamber of Commerce and the Onion Creek Senior Citizen Center for the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new location at 420 Barton’s Crossing in Buda. The event takes place at 11:30 a.m. this Thursday, Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
Flag ceremony at Stagecoach Park on President’s Day
Boy Scout Troop 967 from Buda invites the community to a Flag Retirement Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on President’s Day, Feb. 18, at the Buda Stagecoach Park amphitheater. The troop requests that spectators be seated before the ceremony begins. The event is free and open to the public.
Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery’s Annual Meeting
The Friends of the San Marcos Cemetery will hold an annual meeting to review the organization’s 2012 accomplishments and set goals for 2013. Officers will also be elected and volunteers will be asked to assist in meeting the 2013 goals. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Hays County Historical Commission Theatre, located on the first floor of the Hays County Courthouse. The event is open to the public.
Come have a “Common Experience” at the Philosophy Dialogues series
Now in its seventeenth year, the Philosophy Department has provided a unique model for “freeing thought” through this open forum. The series serves to allow a lively exchange and critical evaluation of diverse ideas. The next topic is “Ethiopia: An Educational Odyssey.” The discussion will take place at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at San Marcos Public Library. Upcoming topics for the spring include “Global Challenges of the 21st Century: The Role of Diplomacy,” “The New World of Social Media, ” Medieval Pilgrimages,” “Bodies of Light from Daniel to Dr. Who,” and a panel discussion on “Aesthetics and Physics.” The series is free and open to the public.
The Elephant Man at EmilyAnn
The EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens presents The Elephant Man, by Bernard Pomerance. Directed by James Brownlee and featuring Ian Ramos as John Merrick and Carl Galante as Dr. Frederick Treves, the empathetic doctor whose relationship with his patient causes him to examine his own beliefs about humanity. Deanna Lalich, Darren Scharf, Carter Holland, Jym Evans, Kathy Brewer, and Meret Slover complete the cast of this story of rejection and acceptance. The show will run through Feb. 24, Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the EmilyAnn’s new Burdine Johnson Studio Theatre in Wimberley. Advance ticket purchase is recommended.
The “State of the City” luncheon
Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson will give the annual “State of the City” address at the Kyle Chamber of Commerce luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at the Hays CISD Performing Arts Center.
